District Policy for Birthday Treats

In support of the District’s Policy on School Wellness, we strive to help our students make healthy lifestyle choices. Simple steps can help children continue making healthier choices as adults. In addition to healthier lunch choices and increased physical activity during our school day, we have implemented a “Non-food birthday treats” policy. Teachers will be sharing their classroom policy on how to celebrate birthdays within their classrooms.

Right to Know

As a parent of a student at Thornton Elementary, you have the right to know the professional qualifications of the classroom teacher who instructs your child. This is a requirement for all districts that receive Title I funds. Federal law allows you to request certain information about your student’s classroom teacher. The law also requires the district to give you this information in a timely manner upon request. Listed below is the information in which you have the right to ask for regarding each of your student’s classroom teachers.

• Whether the Colorado Department of Education has licensed or endorsed your student’s teacher for the grades and subjects taught.

• Whether CDE has decided that your student’s teacher can teach in a classroom without being licensed or qualified under state regulations because of special circumstances.

• The teacher’s college major; whether the teacher has any advanced degrees, and, if so, the subject of the degrees.

• Whether any teachers’ aides or similar paraeducators provide services to your child and, if they do, their qualifications.

Please contact Robyn Werpy in the Adams 12 Human Resources Office at 720-972-4058 or robyn.m.werpy@adams12.org if you would like to receive any of this information.

NED show information

Hello,

As you know we recently hosted an all school live stream event called The NED Show. We trust your student was encouraged by the show which inspires everyone to become Champions at school and in life!

The NED Show yo-yos are still available for purchase at school to support the free show and message. If your student has already purchased a yoyo, here is an important link to help them get off to a good start with proper string length adjustment, click here.

Additionally, here are a couple of our favorite follow up home resources from The NED Show website.  You may want to use these with your child as they are designed to go hand in hand with the program.

If you'd like additional resources, they are available here.

And don’t forget to ask your student what they learned in the show about Never giving up, Encouraging others and Doing your best!

Attendance Matters

Please make sure students are here everyday and on time! We will be sending a magnet home with the days we don't have school.  Make sure to schedule appointments on the days we do not have school to avoid pulling students out early or missing school. If your students will be absent, please call the attendance line at 720-972-5678 and leave the information regarding your student. Thank you for your cooperation.
