Thornton Elementary requires academic dress as follows:

DRESS CODE
All large armhole muscle shirts are prohibited. All shirts should cover students’ stomachs at all times with shoulder straps that cover the entire shoulder. No see through shirts are allowed. No shirts with strong/profane language, smoking/drug references, or alcohol references will be allowed. All shorts need to be more than at finger-tip length. No visible tattoos are allowed. We ask our parents to help us by wearing clothing to school that adheres to this policy. Gang-related activity or clothing which interferes with the safe, secure and orderly learning environment will not be tolerated.
Heelies pose a safety concern with so many children in one place. Please do not allow your child to wear these shoes to school.
NEW GYM FLOOR
We have a brand new gym floor with the opening of the 2009 – 2010 school year. Only tennis shoes will be allowed when participating in P.E. class. Students who wear dress shoes, boots, snow boots, or any type of shoe with a colored sole will have to bring an alternate pair of shoes if they have P.E. class on that day. Otherwise, your student will not be allowed to participate in P.E. class on that day. There will be no exceptions. Also, no writing materials are to be brought to the gym and no food, gum, candy or beverages will be allowed unless it is water. A note from parent/doctor explaining any illness or injury that may keep the student from participating should accompany students to P.E. Students have the opportunity to participate in special activities sponsored by the P.E. teacher throughout the year. You will be notified via parent letter of these activities.
